Mu House: Redefining Residential Space

The inspiration for the Mu House came from the needs of a family of four who desired more space in their home. Chuang addressed this by adding three additional separate rooms and a multifunctional room, while also allocating more space to common areas. The apartment's location, facing a long riverbank with breathtaking views of mountains and rivers, provided the perfect backdrop for the design. The abundance of natural light inspired Chuang to arrange the space in a way that maximizes the connection to the surrounding environment.

One of the standout features of the Mu House is its careful balance and mellow roundness. From the common areas to the private spaces, and from the shelves to the furniture, every aspect of the design reflects this pattern. The result is a space that not only looks visually appealing but also creates a sense of harmony and tranquility.

In terms of construction, Chuang paid close attention to the materials used in the Mu House. Environmentally friendly construction materials were chosen for the paints, walls, and system furniture, aligning with the designer's commitment to sustainability and the residents' health. The use of these materials not only enhances the overall aesthetic but also contributes to a healthier living environment.

The Mu House spans an interior area of approximately 132 square feet. Despite the limited space, Chuang successfully created a sense of boundless horizon by making good use of the scenery and natural light. The walls, painted in a soothing hue of grayish white, contribute to an atmosphere of comfort and elegance throughout the entire house.

The Mu House project was completed in August 2019 in New Taipei City, Taiwan. Throughout the design process, Chuang conducted extensive research to ensure that every detail was crafted to bring out the spatial quality and order. The symbolism embedded in the space, with the square representing life and the circle representing family, adds a personal touch and delivers a blessing to the residents.

The exceptional design of the Mu House has been recognized with the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2021. This award acknowledges the outstanding creativity and ingenuity of the design, which incorporates best practices in art, science, design, and technology. The Mu House not only showcases Chuang's technical and creative skills but also contributes to improving the quality of life for its residents.
